Building owners must hire a qualified professional or a “competent person” to inspect parapets facing a public sidewalk, roadway, or space accessible to the public.
The inspection must identify safe or unsafe conditions, and actions taken to remedy any unsafe condition, including photos and any repairs made.
If an unsafe condition is identified, the owner will be obligated to immediately install protection (sidewalk shed, netting, scaffolding, etc.) for the public until the condition is remedied.
The inspector must also immediately notify DOB of any unsafe condition.
